Huge Hail in Montana!

On August 11, 2019 a huge supercell thunderstorm tore through much of central Montana. In it’s path it left a wide swath of damaged homes, vehicles and businesses.

12 hours before the Storm Prediction Center announced the possibility of “significant severe” hail in the Billings area. This prediction came through in spades. If nothing this storm was an overacheiver. In just over an hour (starting at about 7 p.m. local time) this storm recorded 56 to 71 mile per hour wind and, in areas, hail stones the size of baseballs.

The full extent of the storm is, even today, yet to be seen but there were an estimated 23,000+ homes damaged. Storms like this are particularly damaging to roofing, siding and windows. Contractors and insurance adjusters are being mobilized but the extent of the damage will have them hard pressed to meet the obligations in the timely manner.
